Topic: Teaching
I am writing this on 8th day of Septmber 2008, 3 days after the 'Teacher's Day' in India. In India Teacher's day has been chosen to be 5th day of september in order remember one of the greatest teachers India had...That Teacher was Sri Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. 5th September happens to be his birthday and teachers' day is celebrated in manay schools across India. While it is good to see the tradition being continued while it is sad to understand that a student is struggling hard to 'meet' a good teacher. One learns from many sources around him/her in life. Some of the things we learn are directly and some indirectly. We pay for what learn and we pay for what we do not learn also. Teaching primarily involves sharing of the knowledge, skills, expertise, experience, understanding, awareness etc., A wonderful teacher may be willing to teach a student without expecting a direct 'return' from the student. I do not know whether we call it 'free', 'no-profit' way of sharing. If you actually look at the thing that gets passed on from teacher....obviously teacher won't get a similar thing back from the student. A teacher may not get a knolwdge back from the student. Does it mean it is one-way ?? On the other hand, a student learnt lot of things by just observing a teacher and the student can translate what he learnt into tangibles ..Does the student feel that he owes anything to the teacher from whom (s)he learnt indirectly?? We learn many things from the Nature the day in and day out. Do we (need to) pay back to the nature a penny? Should we pay back?? Whatever one chooses to do someone else learns from us (whther it is paying or not paying). The world is polarized. There are opposites, there are similies, there are extremes all around us. So also the people who are learning are many types...there are few who think that 'buy for less and sell for more' makes good sense irrespective of the 'financial' status of the individual. Some others feel that just like the way the nature is making lot of things available for everyone to learn ...everything must be made available in a similar way ...this is jsut starting of my blog on the various aspects of mygurudakshina, i will continue to blog in further posts ..
